Working on

• Turning eight years of incident notes into a proper runbook collection for the services I maintain. Slower than expected; writing for 3 a.m. readers is its own genre.
• Migrating the last two cron jobs off a box that has been meaningfully replaced three times since 2019. Classic cron archaeology.
• Learning enough modern TLS operations to stop copy-pasting my own nginx configs unexamined.

Reading

• The Art of Doing Science and Engineering, Richard Hamming — slowly, with a notebook.
• Whatever shows up in the Use This interview feed.
• Too many infrastructure post-mortems; they are the honest genre.

Running

The home corner of the fleet: one mini-PC that serves this site and a handful of friends' projects, one old thinkpad as the standby, and a shelf of Raspberry Pis doing tasks a single used thin client could do better. The maintenance diary posts come out of that shelf.

Not doing

• Starting any new side project before October.
• Rewriting the blog generator I do not have.
• Arguing about editors on the internet.
